Car and Driver. Obviously they appeal to a specific audience. Which would not include the 35 year old housewife. Judging from my relatively quick read through of the magazine their target market is men. Not just men, but middle aged men. I think they may thrive on the "mid-life crisis" market. This magazine advertises dream cars and ideal situations all over the place. Every American (it's a generalization, I know, but idealy) desires that the world would become a better and safer place for our children to grow up in. I believe that this magazine is aware of that and is advertising the fact that there are new things that are coming out and being developed that will help us reach this goal. They advertise the cars that run on corn fuel, or now coconut fuel.
I'm not 100% sure if my father subscribes to this magazine or not but I find it likely that he does. My father is older than the mid-life crisis market, but he is a man who was raised to love cars. My dad is currently building a Ford GT 40 and reads up on all the car magazines he can get a hold on. This magazine targets people like my father who, even though may not be able to afford it now, dream of owning a car like this*. From what I have gathered in my not so many years here on the earth I believe that the "mid-life crisis" tends to happen around 35. So the 35 year old car crazed male would be the typical demographic for this magazine.
*when I say "this" I mean any car featured in the magazine.
