news-paper (chap 6)

I decided to read the Daily Herald; Utah Valley's Newspaper. Before this I honestly can say the only newspaper produced by the valley that I read was the Daily Universe. This newspaper I think is a slightly biased newspaper. I believe that the newspaper is trying to appeal to the mormon population (since the people who work there and live in the valley are most likely LDS), but at the same time don't want to only show one side of the story. This is good. This makes their newspaper likable. I've known somebody to cancel their subscription because of one story they completely disagreed with because the reported had an extremely partisan position on a certain issue.

This newspaper, on the front page alone, features both hard and soft stories. Good idea, good idea. It draws in readership of both types. There is a tender picture of a woman tending to a little dog and adjacent is the picture of a young man being arrested. Including both these types of stories allows for a larger readership.

This newspaper features things like editorials, briefing, business, scoreboard, weather, obituaries, comics and TV listings. Pretty wide range of information. The Daily Herald also includes a Classifieds section. I'm kind of worried about this section though. As wonderful as it is, and as seemingly thriving it is, I know places like Craigslist and such are driving that section away. I have never advertised there but I find it fun to look through and see who is selling what and what kind of crazy love interest ad ended up in the newspaper that day.

Lacey I found your blog through Jasmins. Hey any chance that you are still interested in running for President some day? I really enjoy reading your ideas and opinion from your blog.
