Part of that world (chap 3)

If people begin to overly distance themselves from the outside world I think we would run into a lot of problems. It appears as if people are already doing this. This is just a minor example but people will look online to see what the temperature is outside instead of walking ten paces to the front door and feeling it for yourself. Sometimes it's out of convenience, but mostly I think it is pure laziness. If people continue this the amount of misinformed citizens will increase drastically. If we as a nation don't seek out reliable sources and rely on various television stations our information may be biased. Right now is is really popular to watch Stephen Colbert, yeah, he is entertaining, but does he provide all the information needed?

Also, with children, it seems as if a large portion of them are obsessed with video games! This can not be healthy physically or emotionally. I'm sure it deals a lot with the parents not understanding or caring enough to try to get the kid to go outside and get fresh air. My family and relatives have this rule where you have to earn your video game time. You get half the time spent reading to use on video games. IE, you read for a half an hour during the summer, you get 15 minutes of video games. Yet the max you can get a day is an hour.

Along the lines of "reality" I'd like to address the issue of reality tv shows. Some examples include shows like The Real World, Laguna Beach, and The Hills. These shows tell us that they are filmed in real time, but that is such a sham. I know for a fact that these situations are planned. I know people in the Hollywood industry that have told me the realities of what happens in these shows. To an extent it may be that something extraordinary happens, but most of the time it is planned.
