We kind of took over the entire end of the bathroom. We all unpacked our stuff and got ready. I felt kind of silly, but I guess Liz and Amanda did it as well so it really wasn't THAT big of a deal... But seriously, imagine three girls with just packs unpacking all over the end of the bathroom and have makeup and clothes strewn about the counter top. Probably not the most sanitary - but what were we going to do??
Anyway! After we got ready we had to check our bags it was again sweltering hot in the city. So we checked them in at the Termini and in the process I got cut in line by a HUGe sweaty man. He was sweating in all of his cre-vices. It was naaaaaaast. And he grazed my body. Everyone was wanting to throw up. Especially me.
FINALLY we got out of the Termini and ventured to the Colosseum. But of course we bought a little baby map of Roma. It was cool. It kind of popped out. I wanted to be like Joey from Friends and step in it. But I stopped myself. I didn't want to look crazy... :)
Then we arrived at the colosseum.
Enormous Arches.
We are kind of awesome, amazing, magnificent, right?
THANKS TO MY AWESOMENESS IN KNOWLEDGE... we purchased tickets to see the coloseum, palatine hill and forum beforehand. So when we show up the colosseum we skip the EnTIRE line. Seriously. We walked past the 3,000 people in like who had to wait 2.5 hours. And just skidaddled in.!! So worth the extra $4.
This is us skipping the line. We got to go on the RIGHT SIDE. Yessssir.
Me: What are you guys doing?!
Other people: Laughing.
We were so powerful. Gladiator at the Colosseum.
Then we wanted to go to the Trevi Fountain. We had no idea how to get there. Fortunately there was a large group of tourist looking individuals. Upon my (rather stupid - but eventually fruitful) suggestion we followed them. We wound through the city streets and after like 35 minutes found Fontana di Trevi. It was amazazing.
When we got there we HAD to go in. Everyone else was, right? So we did. But the water laps against the edge and splashes like mad. After 2 minutes of sitting there my dress is soaked and I'm secretly thinking "CRAP! What if someone steals my shoes?! I'll be screwed!!" So the whole time I'm glances at my shoes while admiring the fountain.
When we get out, I am soaked, but I do have my shoes.
We were Romans for the day. I will always be Italian, but I've only been Roman 3 times.
Then we got Gelato. If you go to the trevi fountain, get gelato from the little gelateria next to it (if you are looking at the fountain from directly in front of it, it's on your right on the corner). Yet, here is a picture of the men that work there, just incase you don't remember.
Then we walked down Via Condotti. If you don't know what it is. It is like the most fashion forward street in Rome. So ritzyyyyyy.
Then we sat on the Spanish Steps and burned our butts. ROME WAS AN INFERNO.
Spanish Steps. Last time they wouldn't let me in the church at the top.
But this time I didn't even try.
HA.
We finally went back to our hostel: THE YELLOW. It was a pretty awesome hostel. Yet we had to share with four other people, and Amanda was sleeping in a totally different room.
This is The Yellows sign in the bedroom.
And we hung out in the bar. Met some boy named Brittany... (??) spent a good five minutes trying to figure out if he was gay. He was from america though, went to BU or something. To this day we don't know if he was gay or not. Either way he was entertaining. This is The Yellows sign in the bedroom.
The End of Day 1 in Roma.
